CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A new campaign launched by a Charlotte blood bank will provide individuals with an opportunity to give to two charities at once.
Through its "Pint for Pounds" campaign, the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will give six pounds of food to a local food bank for every pint of blood donated.
"Together, sponsors, donors and the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will not only be supporting the community's blood needs, but the community's food needs as well," Martin Grable, president and CEO of the center, says in a statement.
The effort started Feb. 1 and will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, which serves a 19-county area through a network of almost 650 partner agencies.
The food bank distributed more than 25 million pounds of food in the 2008 fiscal year.
The blood center provides blood to 14 area hospitals serving 14 counties in North Carolina and South Carolina.
