Leave a Legacy to hold planned-giving program

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Leave a Legacy of Charlotte is sponsoring a program March 25 to educate fundraisers on the most effective ways to discuss planned and major gifts with potential donors.

The event, "What Do You Say After You Say Hello? A Five-Step Approach to Closing a Major Gift," will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church at 1412 Providence Rd.

Ron Aricco, senior divisional planned-giving director with the Salvation Army, will discuss common mistakes fundraisers make when they bring up planned gifts with their donors.

He also will talk about the importance of convening focus groups and offer tips on generating leads and referrals.

Chris McLeod, vice president of the Greater Charlotte Cultural Trust, will review typical obstacles that arise in trying to forge connections with donors.

She also will instruct participants on how to conduct meaningful donor interviews to determine intent.

The program will include simulated conversations with donors, in which all attendees may participate.

Leave a Legacy is a public-awareness program sponsored by the National Committee on Planned Giving that encourages donors to make charitable gifts from their estates.

The cost of the program is $25, and the deadline for registration is March 20.
