RALEIGH, N.C. - In its second year of operation, a Wake County women's fund has awarded a total of $104,000 to two local groups that serve women and children.
The Women's Network - Connecting for Change, a fund administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation, is made up of 108 women who each commit to donating $1,200 to the effort each year for five years to tackle needs in Wake County.
A $58,000 grant to Interact, a Raleigh group that works on behalf of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, will be used to create and operate a 24/7 crisis-access line that will connect women in need with counselors and services.
SAFEChild, also in Raleigh, will use its grant of $46,000 to fully implement its Welcome Baby program, an in-home mentoring program for new parents that aims to boost the health and safety of infants.
The Women's Network was created in 2007 as a vehicle to engage and educate women about philanthropy, and to strengthen the local community through collective giving.
