Holding on to top volunteers

Though volunteers are even more indispensable as nonprofits struggle to cut budgets without harming vital programs, many nonprofits let some of their best talent slip through their fingers.

One-third of volunteers drop out after one year of participation, costing nonprofits an estimated $38 billion in lost labor.
