Baliganapalli, Foreign/Other

Category: Administrative officer
Field of Interest: Education

Job Description:

The Shanti Bhavan Children's Project is looking for an Administrative Manager to oversee our volunteer program and carry out administrative and executive duties in our English-medium progressive boarding school in India, which serves children of the lowest caste. All of the children in the program hail from socio-economically depressed areas of rural India, mostly from the "Untouchable" or "Dalit" communities, and attending this school is the opportunity of a lifetime for them. They are given a full scholarship, room and board to attend Shanti Bhavan. The school is a haven for students, pre-K-12, who are being provided with superior education in a safe and nurturing environment. You can visit to learn more about the school.

All expenses are paid for, which include: roundtrip airfare/transportation, room and board, visa fees. The position includes a salary equivalent to Indian local standards. Not only is this an opportunity to travel and be fully immersed in a wonderful and vibrant culture, it is a rare opportunity to make a personal contribution to better the lives of the students fortunate enough to attend Shanti Bhavan. This position is administrative in nature and the ideal candidate must not only have appropriate administration experience, but also prefer that type of a role.

Additionally, we have many VIPs who visit our institution including celebrities, CEOs of international corporations and visiting diplomats / dignitaries / royalty. You will have an opportunity to meet and interact with them as a coordinator and administrator for the institution.

Shanti Bhavan has been in existence for 20 years and has been profiled in The New York Times, the Charlie Rose Show, Thomas Friedman's The World is Flat, the Discovery Channel and ABC News. One of our students was recently showcased in Glamour Magazine's "Get Schooled" series:

  • Start Date: June 2017. Must be willing to commit until early December, 2017 with possible extension until June 2018.
  • Ability to assign tasks, manage and build strong working relationships with volunteers, local teachers, and administration.
  • Organizational, administrative, financial and time management skills.
  • Highly motivated, persevering, achievement-oriented attitude.
  • Flexibility in planning and adapting to a very specific culture.
